Our primary objective is the education of the public in the history of the Borough of Woking and nearby parishes.
Currently all meetings are being held via Zoom and the newsletter has been replaced with an electronic journal.
Our main activity is a programme of eight talks each year by visiting and home-grown speakers on aspects of the history of Woking and other historical topics. Doors open at 7.40pm and the talks begin at 8.00pm. There is always time to socialize over a cup of tea or coffee beforehand and we welcome visitors as well as members.
Other activities include visits to places of historic interest and opportunities to work with fellow organizations such as The Lightbox, the Surrey Archaeological Society, Friends of Woking Palace and the Surrey History Centre.
We meet in Hall 2, Maybury Centre, Board School Road, Woking GU21 5HD
Our newsletter is issued four times a year, keeping members in touch with Society activities and forthcoming events and exhibitions in Surrey and beyond. Members also contribute articles of historical interest.
Members with email access also receive an electronic News Bulletin six times a year with information on Society news and local events which may be interest to members
What does it cost?
In December 2020, Members will pay £10(single), £15 (Joint membership for 2 adults in the same house) which covers all meetings and the newsletter.
